Table Redo with Reclaimed Bowling Alley Flooring

Hey there!  
Hope you had a lovely weekend!
As we get ready for the October Grand Opening of our shop, 
we are working hard to find just the right things to fill the inside.  
Finding the right piece to put in the huge window display 
has been really important to us.  
Hubby was driving home last week and came 
across a table in an alley that looked as if it was being thrown out.  
He called the owner of the property it was on and 
asked if he could have it and they said sure, so he packed it up and brought it home.  
It was in pretty sad shape but it wasnt the top we were interested in.......it was the legs.  
Take a look......
We loved the industrial pipes and huge castors so we removed those from the
 plywood top and gave them a good wash.  
I happened to remember that we still had one huge slab of reclaimed bowling alley flooring from last summer that was sitting in our storage facility.  
So we loaded it up and brought it home to work on it.
We measured out where we wanted to attach the legs and drilled holes to accommodate them.  Because the slab is so massive, we needed to build the table first 
before starting work on the table top.
The flooring was covered in that thick yellow lacquer, so I bought a can of paint stripper and got to work, using gloves of course.
Heres a look at it half way through the stripping process.  Isnt the wood underneath lovely?
After stripping everything off, I gave it a good sanding with 180 grit sandpaper and my palm sander.  Then coated the whole thing with Minwax Finishing Wax in Natural.   I happen to like finishing wax much better than polyurethane because it leaves a more natural look on the wood instead of looking like you coated it with polyurethane.  Then I gave the pipe legs and castors a light coating of oil rubbed bronze spray paint.  Heres how it looks now.....
We are pretty happy with it!
We cant wait to get it into the display window with some pretty cool things on the top of it.
And Im crazy about those castors!
 
 We love the vintage industrial look!
Hubby went to a big estate sale this weekend and he came home with some amazing finds
for our shop that I cant wait to share!
Ive had lots of folks emailing me asking where our shop is going to be located and 
I will share all that info as we get closer to the big day.
We hope to have a spectacular grand opening 
complete with a piece of furniture to be given 
away in a drawing, so, we do hope you think about making the trip.

Little Frenchy nightstands

Found these little nightstands a few weeks ago and thought
I would spruce them up.
Did my own chalk paint in white and I used Ceces Vermont Slate
as an accent and on the handles. I also mixed some black paint with 
some silver glaze to go over the slate. 
I tried the wax paper method for this transfer from the "Graphics Fairy".  Lemme just say that
wax paper does not mesh well with my printer! However, doing a little improvisation, I taped the wax
paper to a sheet of printer paper and got fine results! Be aware that once you start your transfer, be darn
sure of its placement! Once that paper touches anything the ink is transferred! Ask me how I know this.........Windex does a fine job of cleaning up any oops.  Oh, and waxing or applying a topcoat will
smear the ink. I thought it would have dried after a day or two, but apparently it doesnt. So, I wiped it
down with water and was left with what you see above. These tops got an acrylic top coat.

Laundry Room

We recently built a new deck off the north side of our home.  It was a side of the house we rarely used off the laundry room but had a back door to that led to nothing but grass.  Of course, now that we have to pass through the laundry room to get to it, I was beginning to notice that I hadnt updated the room in so long and the paint in there was somewhat dark, which Im not a fan of.  So time for an update.  Hubby came home with a piece of a picket fence that started it all.
First I got rid of the dark paint and covered the walls in my favorite color, Simply White by Benjamin Moore.  Then I added white hooks purchased at Lowes to the picket fence section and hung it on the wall.  I happen to love straw garden hats and had a collection of them, so, I chose my favorites and hung them from the fence.
The fence piece was in perfect shape so I didnt need to do anything to it. 
I gathered some old soda bottles at our shop because I loved the shape and pop of red color and filled one with faux flower stems.
Hubby also found a chippy old screen door that I just fell in love with as is.  And I love being in the laundry room when its cool out with a breeze blowing through so a screen door was a must.
The paint is chipping off to reveal two different shades of white and I love that so I didnt want to repaint it.
The door didnt have a doorknob and I wanted something unique.  I happened to find this thing in the back of my hubbys truck so he drilled a couple of holes in it and voila....the perfect doorknob.
I absolutely love it!  And now the laundry room seems so much brighter and bigger for this tiny room.
And this deck, which was my hubbys dream, has become our favorite place.  :)  More pics soon!

SWITCH YOUR LIGHT cord switch install tutorial

Recently I added corded switches
to my two wall scones.

Ive done this many times before however this time
I noticed there was no instructions on the switch
packaging, so I thought I would share.
The items I bought were a
15ft extension cord and a cord switch.
The tools I used were
phillips screw driver, wire cutters & wire strippers
 
First I cut the outlet end of the cord.
This is the end that was connected to the wall
scones. An additional post explaining this step
will be coming soon.
Second I figured out the location I wanted the
 switch and cut half way thru the cord.
Next was to pull the one side of the cord away
from the other before stripping the cut ends and
twist the exposed wire clockwise.
If you notice in the photos there is a small
amount of the cord cut out completely.
I hooked the two exposed ends to fit onto
the screws in my switch.
Time for the switch.
With my screw driver I remove the cover.
I loosened the screws inside the switch so I
 could hook the wires onto them,
once I had the wire ends in
 place I tighten the screws back down.
Almost done.
I had to push the two wires into the cut out
on each end of the switch housing.
See how everything is in place now.
Lastly I grabbed the cover plate and
screwed it back on to the housing.
Voila there is my new switch,
now to the second one.
There are other kinds and sizes of switches you can
 buy. They may have a different install method also.
 I like these larger ones because they have a
convenient flip switch rather then that turney
 one with teeth that hurt your thumb or finger if too stiff.
