SHOWROOM TO BEDROOM room makeover

Come on in and get the 50 cent tour.
NEW Bedroom - AFTER
Guests are due to arrive soon and the temperary bedroom make-over is complete.
We hope Georges family enjoy it.
OLD Showroom - BEFORE
I took our front entry as well as where we usually show most of my furniture,
and transformed it into a pretty and comfortable guest bedroom.

This is a 136" x 69" room, thats just over 11 feet long by just under 6 feet wide.
Bedroom
$3 yard sale faux wood blinds I spray painted white and of course the vintage lamp I rewired for you.
Showroom
Georges granddaughter gets her own hooks to hang stuff and my beloved iron stool to sit on,
or climb on to reach all the neat things.
BEFORE seen above
AFTER seen below
The quilted green pillow shams are from our last Florida trip
and the king size yard sale quilt was only $15.
I built a custom sized bed because the room isnt big enough. We chose to used the Queen size
BYOB mattress (camping air mattress) because it would be flexible with the fit.
I built a raised platform underneath so the girls have tonnes of room to hide their luggage.
There is also extra foam and padding between the wood platform and the air mattress.
I hope they have some great nights of sleep, cause George plans to run them ragged.
Me thinks he forgets hes dealing with a 4 year old.

SHABBY CHIC ADDITION french bedroom cabinet

Found at an auction,
No one else seemed to want it but we did pay a fair price for it.
It looks pretty good here but this photo was taken after some nasty
broken chrome handles were removed and a good cleaning.
I found old newspapers from England laying in the drawers
I took advantage of the perfect timing and lined Sonjas Union Jack top drawer with them
days before she picked it up.
I enjoying working with color but its so pure to work with a distressed white finish.
I sprayed this cabinet in old white chalk paint
and brushed bright white chalk paint on the corner accents to cordinate with
the bright white I chose to use on the hardware.
Look at those legs,
they provide a fabulous space for a basket to sit underneath
Are you ready for a fun Sunday morning inspirational post.
We did some christmas shopping at a large local nursery
and I snapped lots of photos for all of you to get the holiday mood flowing.
So tomorrow morning grab your coffee or tea before sitting down and reading your email.

YOU ASKED MY OPINION IV janices master bedroom

This is the fourth installment of *YOU ASKED MY OPINION*
Janice has asked for some direction with her master bedroom.
Janice doesnt have a digital camera so ....
Ive had to interpret her descriptions with on line pics and ideas.
I hope you all enjoy and especially you Janice.
She has described her room as having a king sized bed on one side of the room
and 2 tall windows on either side of a large credenza style dresser on the opposite wall.
How about the thought of reversing the room by moving the bed between the windows
Im quite partial to floor to ceiling pleated drapes, all 3 of these first photos have great window treatments.
Janice wants to introduce a blue or turquoise into the room.

Love the soft turquoise on the walls.
She has a metal scroll work headboard that needs painting too.
Using a feature wall behind the iron headboard will help it stand out.
This is a great example of white on white, it does offer texture without standing out.
Janice asked for a grown up bedroom so *NO* to this room
Antiquing the iron headboard would offer a very shabby chic country feel
But Janice loves everything french - french country?
The metal headboard needs to be primed and painted with metal spray paint,
I like the look of this, very french and very grown up.
White walls and turquoise frame sounds exciting but has a beachy feel.
I still like the feel of this room.
Janice also has a pair of Italian feeling cherub lamps she wants to use in the room.
Both Janice and I love the feel of this space.
The combination of golds, creams, and turquoise is perfectly soothing for a bedroom
Janice knows she is drawn to all white fluffy bedding.
Okay I think I threw in the *fluffy* part.
She has 3 botanics currently over her bed hanging symmetrically
with blue/green paisley mats.
Depending on their size just 2 could be used above the side tables.
Or all three moved over 1 side table and displayed like the above example,
with something of equal weight over the other side.
The real trick will be to incorporate her single raspberry velvet upholstered french chair but I think
it can be done if the raspberry is used as an extra accent color in small doses around the room.
The room has oak parquet thru out so a plush soft rug would be warming to the feet
or a bit more of a whimsical feel could be managed with a round colored one.
You could always do a traditional or classic rug.
I wanted to talk about Janices dresser but as she is very eager to start this week and I want to get
this posted sooner then later. She already has the credenza style dresser painted in white
with a tall center mirror so its just a matter of placement and styling.

Master Bedroom

Isnt it funny how our tastes change over time?  Does anyone else experience that?  Our master bedroom was beginning to drive me crazy.  It was the bedroom/office and that setup just wasnt working if we wanted a relaxing place sleep.  So, we hauled the computer and desk out of there and decided to turn our bedroom into a relaxing place that we would look forward to being in every night.
We got rid of the barn door and iron bed frame that was there before and bought a new bed frame.  I spent an entire weekend making a new upholstered and tufted headboard with plywood, foam and fabric.  That sucker was hard and it isnt perfect but it works, we love it and thats what matters.
I was actually inspired by the art on the wall.  I picked it up at our shop and fell in love with the colors, the modern look of it, even though its vintage and the chippy frame its in.
The biggest change for me though is the mid century modern dresser my hubby found in a storage building he bought.  It was in perfect shape but was all wood and had funky wood handles that we didnt like.  We took those off, added new hardware and I painted the frame of it.  I really didnt think I would like something like that but I absolutely love it.  It might be my favorite part of the room.
To add a little bit of rustic, I made some tea light holders with logs from the back yard.  I simply chiseled the bark off and drilled a hold in the center.  I stacked them on top of some old books.  Before you send me hate mail, yes I know, fire hazard, but these are never left unattended.  :)
The color of the walls is Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.
Im currently in the process of making a very cool piece of art to hang above the bed, so Ill be sharing that too.  And the carpet will be going too and will be replaced with something that will surprise you.
What do you think?  Totally modern for me but we are loving it and we finally have a peaceful room to sleep in or watch movies together without having to stare at a desk full of work.  :)
P.S.  Im now on Instagram if youd like to follow along in between posts!  Click here!
