Back From A Break

Since really launching my blog and regularly posting in August, I felt I had come a long way. Figuring out blogging was tricky. What do you write, how do you get heard? Slowly, I started to understand how to grow my blog and learned a lot from so many other talented bloggers.
Then, I took a little break. I fell and broke my foot. Now I would have liked to start this post writing about how I landed wrong snow boarding or how I stumbled running trails training for an ultra marathon. But no. I have no such exciting story.
Simply barefoot and clumsy, I landed on a stray boot at the bottom of our garage stairs and landed sideways on my foot. Now who leaves their shoes all around where someone can trip on them!! Oh, yes, it was me. Go figure, I landed on my own mess. Bet you can guess there are no pictures of an organized garage on my blog coming soon!
Now 4 weeks into my boot, I had to adjust to slowing down. I decided to let the big furniture projects I had wait and I began to work on some signs as gifts for friends. The couple of blog projects I wanted to start, I put on hold. And with that, it just didnt seem I had much to blog about.
But, in this time, I got to think a lot about my blog. I decided I would try to make it a little more me. While I want the biggest chunk of it to be really good painting advice and projects, I also think maybe just a little day to day chat and inspiration would fit too. So..heres some chit chat.
During the last several months, I got to work with a wonderful group of women for the Greens Committee for our sons school. Several times each week we would meet at Donnas house and her house was just BEAUTIFUL. I could give a whole tour of it, but on one of the last meetings I snapped this picture of a beautiful Christmas display on her kitchen ceiling. The lights and branches were anchored onto the recessed lighting and then tied into the electricity.
In the New Year, I am looking forward to sharing some great projects on my blog. I have some home projects I will be starting and.....
I am also excited to create a new furniture finish using Modern Masters metallic paint for the Modern Masters  Shine Big, Shine Small campaign! As a decorative painter for over 10 years Modern Masters was always my go to faux finish line. This will be fun!!
Bring beauty to your day!

LITTLE SHOP OF HEDWIG shabby chic from florida to bc

WARNING: this is a Sunday posting much like a Sunday drive .. for your enjoyment.
It will have an option at the end so plz stay tuned
we suggest you grab a tea or coffee or
even a lemonade a sit back and enjoy the ride.
Way too long ago I mentioned a fabulous shabby chic furniture shop we
found on our vacation while in Florida. I had seen some adverts for a few antique
shops in the Grand Central district of St. Petersburg, only 10 mins from our beach side getaway.
As we pulled up to the curb, my involvement in the conversation
about our days plans dropped along with my jaw.
My eyes glazed over and I couldnt get out of the seat belt fast enough.
But then everything slowed down, including Georges voice trying to get my attention again.
"OH MY GAWD LOOK" I said to him, like he had no clue what power had
taken my mind, body, and soul over in those few seconds.
This wasnt on the list, the store next door was, even the one across the street was on the list.
How could this little shop not be on every list out there.
Upholstered french distressed white chair with a QUILT!
As I write this post I am seriously reminded of how child like I felt
during the whole visit. How I even managed to take pictures is a miracle.
Once we made it thru the front door, George jokingly announces to the 2 ladies over seeing
the shop that I was all theirs and hed be back in a few hours to pick me up.
Eiffel tower images on french chairs, white distressing, double welting,
luscious pink rugs under foot, Im thinking at this point *this could be better then the beach*
I can still hear George in the back ground chatting with the ladies, joking as he always does,
as Im running around touching everything with one hand and snapping pics with the other.
So many benches upholstered in almost every vintage fabric we all covet.
Mad Hatter Table for Tea?
By now I havent heard Georges voice in awhile,
I must have made the full journey into this marvelous land.
Look at that wonderful headboard tucked in behind the dresser.
It looks like something from far under the sea reminiscent of Poseidons crown.
Can you see the touch of whimsy sitting in this chair?
It would be so easy to imagine youre a character in a fairy tale or nursery rhythm
Ring a round the rosie, pocket full of posey .....
Flowers over head.
Soft blues, yellows, greens, pinks and of course whites greeted me every time
I rounded a corner or entered another room.
Maybe I could get to Narnia thru this wardrobe.
Is that the lamp post where Lucy met the fawn?
Im sure this is officially Tinker bells bathroom chandelier.
I hear the shop ladies still laughing at Georges jokes,
and then I recall where I actually am.
But before I give in and leave my fantasy
One last daydream about Sleeping Beauty.
Now to that option I mentioned at the started of this LONG journey,
and if you have made it this far you deserve another treat.

Design Inspiration from Telluride Colorado

Can you believe it is August already! I am finally winding down from an onslaught of lacrosse tournaments and now getting ready for school to begin for my boys. In between all that, we got away on what was an amazing vacation to Telluride, Colorado with stops in Denver and Moab. Telluride was breathtaking! I am a mountain girl (I came home with a cowboy hat!) and I could seriously move out west in a heartbeat. However, I would have panic attacks driving on some of those high mountain cliffs...that could definitely be a problem.
I wanted to share a couple pictures of the beautiful scenery and some great decor from the Tomboy Tavern restaurant in Mountain Village Telluride.
Warning: my pictures are not the best here. Apparently two glasses of wine has a bit of a negative impact on my photography skills! I will take that into account on future evenings out! This was one of two seating areas in the restaurant. I would love to recreate the look. Crisp white trim all around room. Deep neutral walls. Dark weathered wood plank floors and reclaimed barn wood on ceiling. I loved the fireplace with the brick, crisp white and heavy dark beam and I love, love, love the dark gray imitation bull head!
Empty wine bottles make a simple chandelier unique.
Love using old barn doors inside...future project!! *photo skills dwindling as wine takes effect:-)
Reclaimed barn wood ceiling.
OK, now take a deep breath and relax...
Stunning....

A TABLE BUILT FROM PARTS double pedestal dining table

Recently I built and painted a large double leaf dining table
with parts from 2 different tables I had.
This solid 1.5" thick pine surface came from my sisters home.
Ive been doing my best to pull together some of my sisters decorating ideas and
Last month I did up a beautiful Regency table for her dining area.
So as a fair trade I got their old table to work with.
The pine oval wasnt just really substantial it also comes with 2 large leaves.
The apron however was 3" deep thin milled pine mounted in a rectangle with 4 straight corner legs.
The metal and wood pedestals and decorative apron came from another table we had.
That table top was made of MDF and had horrible water damage to the surface.
You cant see it in this photo but out it went!
The apron took time to retrofit to the new pine slab but it ended up working out nicely dont you think.
I layered the painting and distressing in white to show off her age and wood grain.
I think she is so cute when she is in her single round stage.
Today Im also over at Finishing Touches Interiors:
