ON THE FARM rustic barn chest

Photo taken at Webster Fleamarketmore about that at the bottom.
This chest was in terrible shape
I chose to work with its rustic attributes not against them.
The original hardware was tossed in the trash, these
beauties were stolen roadside off a pressboard 70s
long dresser, might I add it was pouring rain at the time.
I highlighted the grain in the plywood by having
black under the red and sanding till it showed thru.
But the very first coat was a white primer, I wanted
many layers to show thru adding to the appearance of age.
I couldnt think of a better way to line the drawers
then with this fun farmhouse tablecloth.
While working on this rustic red chest of drawers I
was reminded of all the neat farm items we saw while
strolling thru many of Floridas fleamarkets last month.?
Here are just some of the farm items that caught our eye.
I wish I could have taken this yoke transformed into
a mirror home on the plane. George just looks at
me sideways when I say that. Have you seen some
of the things ppl carry on planes?

On a MCM kick!

I picked up another credenza for a heck of a deal! This was made my Broyhill in the early 60s.
The guy had been keeping it outside and had no idea what he had.
This was located in a seedy part of town. So I took my pit-bull and a little something extra
for protection ;)    (Im allowed to do that btw!)
There are so many on craigslist in the natural state, albeit refinished. They look great! But
they dont seem to sell that fast. I find that people like the ones that are painted.
Since this wasnt in pristine shape, I didnt feel so bad painting it.
I chose gray and black for this one. I refinished the top in espresso.
I redid the drawers as well. Everything was a walnut veneer. Remember with veneers, go easy
when you sand, lest you hog all the veneer off!! Ask me how I know this......
I love how the wood came out! This is a very masculine looking piece, quite
different from what I usually do.

How to Fix Watermarks on Furniture

For the past couple weeks, I have been having some changes made to my website and blog, so, I really didnt want to post much. I sort of figured, why have anyone drop by and visit when things were not "all fixed up"? Right?
Well this week all the changes should be in place and with the kids back to school, I am ready to get posting.
Now, with all this time I have now that the kids are back in school, I still manage to fall behind here and there, because furniture rehab is just not a perfect science. For instance, I have been trying to finish a small buffet in a Duck Egg Blue distressed with gold beneath. And this baby has been giving me little fits.
The first problem was this. (Oh, yeah. Ill let you here about the other problems in upcoming posts) After finishing my first coat of Duck Egg Blue, some ugly water marks popped up!
Now, even though I have been doing this for years, I never had this happen! I immediately went to my source for great refinishing advice, The Purple Painted Lady at www.thepurplepaintedlady.com.
There, I discovered Zinsser shellac. Thank the Lord! Here I thought I would have to re-sand and all it took... was two coats of Zinsser Shallac to seal the stains and prevent future bleed through.
Look how perfect it turned out! Not a watermark in site! Heres how ->
Easy Way To Fix Watermarks on Furniture
On an original furniture surface with a watermark, stain, or wood sap bleeding,
or on a just painted surface where a water mark has appeared:
  1. Spray surface with an even coat of of zinsser shellac.
  2. Wait 5 or more minutes and spray with a second even coat of zinger shellac.
  3. After only 10 minutes, surface with marks can be painted.
